Charles Rabin of the Miami Herald writes, “A Miami-Dade police officer injured in a crash on an entrance ramp to Okeechobee Boulevard on Thursday morning suffered non-life threatening injuries. His K9 was unscathed. Police officer James Boone, a 23-year veteran who works airport detail, was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The officer injured his clavicle and ribs. The crash with another vehicle happened in the southbound lanes of Okeechobee Road and Northwest 138th Street. Lanes in the area reopened before 8:30 a.m. According to police, Boone was driving his marked car south on Okeechobbee at 5:30 a.m., when a driver in a Toyota Corolla tried to make a left turn onto Northwest 138th Street. The cars collided, and Boone’s vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Palmetto General Hospital after complaining of a leg injury. No charges have been filed.”
